Record year for Solar PV Scheme in 2025 with over 33,000 grants awarded to households

A record number of solar panels were installed on homes across Ireland in 2025, new SEAI data has revealed.

A total of 34,088 households installed solar panels with grant aid in 2025, surpassing the 29,151 grant-assisted installations in 2024.

Some 33,048 grants were awarded under the SEAI’s Solar PV Scheme, the highest figure recorded to date.

It represented a 16% increase over 2024 and a 49% rise compared to 2023, highlighting strong consumer demand for solar panels and the growing appeal of renewable energy.

There was widespread adoption across the country, with 21 counties surpassing their 2024 record.

Counties Clare, Kerry, Waterford, Mayo and Wexford showed impressive adoption levels with over 1,000 households in each county taking advantage of the Solar PV Scheme which currently offers up to €1,800 for a solar installation.

Briain Kelly of EnergyEfficiency.ie said the figures show that homeowners are increasingly recognising both the environmental and financial benefits of solar energy.

“This is another exciting milestone for Ireland’s renewable energy sector,” said Briain Kelly of EnergyEfficiency.ie.

“The pace of adoption we saw last year shows that Irish households and businesses are taking climate action seriously.

“With SEAI grants and falling costs, solar PV is becoming an increasingly viable financial decision and a no-brainer for those looking to reduce their energy bills.

“There’s a €1,800 grant available from the SEAI in 2026 for those who wish to install solar panels on their rooftops.”

Briain Kelly said that he believes the trend will continue into 2026, which will further support Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
