Qualcom, an Irish provider of IT infrastructure and support services, has won 15 new deals for its Staff as a Service (StaaS) offering since the beginning of 2014. The combined value of the new business for Qualcom is more than €750,000.

With the upturn in the economy, companies are expanding, often rapidly, into new areas and don’t always have the internal technical resources to cope with this growth. As a result of this Qualcom has seen a huge increase in demand for this service and is now forecasting a total of €1.5 million in StaaS deals, as well as doubling its StaaS workforce to 80 by 2015.

Qualcom’s staff are brought in at a variety of levels, ranging from helpdesk to project managers and help to free up senior technical employees to deal with more strategic projects. StaaS also allows businesses to completely outsource the management of their IT systems to Qualcom.

Ken Breen, CEO, Qualcom commented, “The growth in StaaS is a good indicator of demand for scarce technical resources today. Companies are expanding at such a rate that they often don’t have the internal skills set to keep up. Our StaaS solution helps companies to bridge that gap and ensure that their growth and service is not hindered.

“We have experts in many areas, such as Microsoft Office 365, who can be called in at very short notice to supplement and support existing staff. The flexibility this offers to employer’s means it is very easy to cover someone who may be on sick or maternity leave. Essentially, StaaS offers companies the opportunity to have expertise in a specific area for whatever time period they need it.
