Premium rate services (PRS) are provided by a number of companies in Ireland and are regulated by Comreg. According to Comreg PRS companies are those:

“starting with the prefix 15XX and short-codes in the form 5XXXX and offer a variety of information and entertainment services. Some examples of PRS include quiz television services, chat-line services, ringtones, sports alerts, weather alerts, television voting and competitions.”

Previously any findings of failures by these companies have not been published for general access. Comreg will now publish details of any non-compliance findings on their PRS website Phonesmart under their code of practice section. I feel this is a welcome addition so consumers can see which companies are consistently operating outside of their remit and the law. The full press release from Comreg can be found here.

If you’ve been affected adversely by PRS companies give Comreg a call or submit a compliant online here: http://www.phonesmart.ie/Complaints/87
