The property industry is one the largest and most valuable asset classes in the world and the use of technology to improve this sector is on the rise. PropTech has mushroomed and investment follows suit. Global VC investment in PropTech is expected to be close to $20m in 2019 (Forbes.com) which is a huge indication of the propensity of PropTech to revolutionise the future. In Ireland, PropTech is rapidly pioneering the use of technology in tackling key issues challenging the real estate market. The PropTech Innovation Award will recognise the individual, business, product or service that has driven innovation, embraced technology and whose activities are shaping the future of the Irish property industry.
Now in its fifth year, the 2019 KPMG Irish Independent Property Industry Excellence Awards Programme is the beacon for excellence and integrity in the Irish property sector. Award winners set the benchmark for professionalism and showcase the best that industry stakeholders have to offer.
At today’s launch of the 2019 Awards, Paul Muldoon of Irish Independent said “We are very pleased to introduce the PropTech Innovation Award which will highlight the huge impact that technology is playing for all property sector stakeholders. In particular, this award will acknowledge the inroads that residential agencies are making in PropTech and we look forward to their entries and to other entrants using tech to enhance and improve their client experience”.
Commenting, Jim Clery, Tax Partner and Head of Real Estate at KPMG said “We have extended the Planning Award to both private and public planning nominations. As with all award categories, adjudication will seek projects that demonstrate measurable improvement, reflect innovation through approach or technology, appreciate needs of clients, contribute to local community and demonstrate strategic co-ordination. I am happy to also introduce news of the second doctorate in property research”.
The Awards provide a platform for all stakeholders in the property sector to invest in the future of the industry through academic based research at PhD level. Any profit from the programme is reinvested in the doctorate together with patronage from Hibernia REIT, Cosgrave Developments, Linesight and Irish Life Investment Managers. The second doctorate to commence in September 2019 is titled “Developing a functional and sustainable housing system, a multi perspective approach”. The thrust of which will be to capture the major elements of what Irelands housing system should do and for whom. It will look at both supply and use-side theories on functionality and long term sustainability.
Commenting on the doctorate, Dr Brian Norton, Principal – Technological University Dublin said “The range of stakeholders with an interest in housing is broad, yet only a few perspectives get heard. We are confident that this new body of research will shed a light on the way forward toward a functioning housing system in Ireland”
