Periscope live streams are now finally embedded on Twitter so you no longer have to click a link and then get chucked over to the Periscope app. It makes sense considering that Periscope is owned by Twitter and it will no doubt be a welcome move for everyone who uses both apps.
Twitter has said today that live streams from Periscope are now integrated directly into the timeline which means you can view them right from within the Twitter app itself. When you tap on a Periscope video within the Twitter app it will now go full screen and display with comments and hearts.
Periscope’s integration into Twitter arrives as the platform is trying to reinvent itself amid stagnant growth of 320 million users, stock plunging to an all time low and apparent competition from a new network called Peach.
Twitter is exploring ways to make the platform less intimidating, easier to use and is also contemplating moving the 140 character limit to 10,000.
The new feature will be available on iOS only for the moment and will be brought to Android and the desktop website at a later date. This will likely help the expansion of Periscope by bringing new users from Twitter to the platform. Periscope currently has 10 million users since it launched last March.
Periscope users have created more than 100 million live broadcasts including #DrummondPuddleWatch which went viral last week as users logged on to look at people trying to navigate over a puddle in Newcastle. The stream was watched by over half a million people.
Last month, Apple named Periscope as its 2015 App of the year.
