Today was the day the Nexus Prime was to be released. It’s release was pulled due to Steve Jobs’ death out of a mark of respect. There has been some rumblings on the net today that the real reason the launch was pulled was due to software features being removed to stop possible patent infringements.

It’s hard to take anything seriously in the time just before the launch of a new handset. Especially one that has the whole Android community, and others, holding it’s breath as we wait to see what Ice Cream Sandwich is really like!

The only question people are asking now is when the release will actually go ahead. Enter UK Samsung Sales Director, Andrew Glass. For what ever reason Glass decided to give us this little snippet today:

“You will have an announcement of the Nexus Prime very shortly and will be seeing it in shops sooner than you think.”

So Device Name confirmed to start with! What can we read into the rest of it? Obviously not a lot but from that statement I would get the impression that they are itching to release the device and it was delayed just enough time so as not to seem insensitive.

So we wait. Hopefully not too long. As we have seen in the past with new Nexus devices, another similar device usually is released shortly afterwards running their own skinned version of the OS. Maybe that will be the Galaxy S III that we reported on earlier.

Let us know what you think below. Are you waiting for the release of the next Nexus device? If it turns out to be the phone the rumoured leaks suggest will it draw people away from the iPhone 4S?

Update: Samsung have finally confirmed that the event will now go ahead in Hong Kong on October 19. While they haven’t released specifics, their invitations to the event have included an Ice Cream Sandwich graphic!
