Údrás na Gaeltachta, in partnership with Ealaín na Gaeltachta have recently launched a five-week Dath an Dóchais exhibition.

The online event is displaying 40 visual artists from the Gaelteacht in celebration of their work.

Úna Campbell, An Gailearaí said ‘This exhibition clearly demonstrates the strength of vision and eloquence of each of the artist’s own visual language assembled here within the prism of the geography and spirit of the Gaeltacht’

The exhibition is in honor of the 40 years of support offered by Údarás na Gaeltachta for visual arts and was curated by Úna Campbell with An Gailearaí, Gaoth.

The virtual experience was launched www.DathanDochais.com, and also features an audio element with a commission essay by art critic and selector Catherine Marshall.

Rachel Holstead of Ealaín na Gaeltachta said ‘The visual culture of the Gaeltacht is as vibrant and diverse as the Gaeltacht itself’

‘This celebration offers a view of several generations of Gaeltacht artists, from welcome immigrants to a younger generation which has benefitted from and taken ownership of a growing culture of visual expression.’

Exhibition Highlights Diversity

Dath an Dóchais highlights the variety and diversity of the work created by the artists who live within the Gaeltacht.

The exhibition although being held online due to COVID-19 guideline, enables the artwork to be accessed nationally and internationally.

The widespread accessibility of the creative work has always been the main focus for both Údarás na Gaeltachta and Ealaín na Gaeltachta.

Ealaín na Gaeltachta has promoted the development of the contemporary and traditional arts and has provided services and grant schemes, it has been a joint effort for Údarás na Gaeltachta and the Arts Council since 1997.
