National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the new high-speed, fiber-to-the-home network on behalf of the Government, was awarded ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, and ISO 9001:2015.

The ISO is the International Organisation for Standardisation, the body that develops and maintains commercial, technical, and industrial standards worldwide. These particular certifications range across Quality, Environmental, and Health and Safety management.

What are these ISO certifications?

ISO 14001:2015, Environmental Management Systems, allows organizations to meet their environmental obligations control their environmental impacts, and improve their environmental performance. ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Management Systems helps organisations meet their health and safety obligations, control the impact of potential and actual hazards.

Lastly, ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems is designed to improve customer satisfaction levels, internal efficiency, and process consistency.

This highlights the efforts of NBI’s commitment to quality, safety, and the environment. This is Ireland’s largest telecommunications plan in motion, planning and rolling out the infrastructure across all 26 counties as part of the country’s broadband plan.

These accreditations also show the importance of creating a good work culture that will positively impact customers. NBI was established in 2019, the ISO auditors found that it had a thought-out and careful approach to ensure management systems, structure, and development of procedures and processes are focused on best practice.

Due to the size of the National Broadband Plan, creating a culture around safety was essential internally and externally, as NBI members are visible across the country. Quality, safety, and environment are woven into the day-to-day operational decisions and planning functions of NBI.

This is all while the company monitors and ensures key performances, evaluating results, improving operational controls, and maintaining regulatory, company, and industry compliance.

Patrick Hendrick, CEO of NBI said “National Broadband Ireland is delighted to receive these ISO certifications. They underline the culture of continuous improvement and highlight that the NBI team is very focused on creating a professional culture that will have a positive impact on our customers, the retail service providers, as well as end-users.”

He also said “In addition, creating an ethos of health and safety among the NBI crews working on the ground across Ireland is vital. This certification provides confidence to the public that they are dealing with a professional company that meets the highest standard in terms of Health & Safety management.”
