Mid-West region to see the benefits as SportsTech Ireland announces new partnership with London Sport

SportsTech Ireland has announced a new partnership with London Sport this week which focuses on sports participation and engagement.

The organisation aims to position Ireland and the Mid-West as a leading destination for Sports Technology, as well as harness sports technology for societal benefit. This is the organisation’s fourth international collaboration since SportsTech Ireland launched earlier this year, having already formalised projects and partnerships with the University of Ryerson, Toronto, leAD Sports Accelerator in Berlin, and SportseXperience in Eindhoven.

London Sport which launched in 2015 is backed by Sport England and the Mayor of London and aims to support 1,000,000 Londoners to become more physically active by 2020. So far London Sport has remained on course to deliver their objective with a series of innovative and engaging programs being rolled out across the city, including the launch of Sport Tech Hub, London’s first technology incubator dedicated to physical activity and sport technology start-ups earlier this month.

Speaking about the new announcement co-founder of SportsTech Ireland Emily Ross said, “We are delighted to announce this affiliation with London Sport, which recognises the power that sport has to move the needle, not just for individuals, but for entire cities.”

Alex Zurita, London Sport Strategic Lead –Technology for Participation, said: “This is an exciting step for international sport technology innovation. In bringing together the expertise and networks of SportsTech Ireland with the world class innovation already taking place in London, we will provide real opportunities for both.”

The initiative between SportsTech Ireland and London Sport will provide both organisations with access to an international network of entrepreneurs and mentors in the area of sports technology, research and innovation, with a focus on sports participation and engagement. A series of joint projects will kick off in 2018.
