Michael Phelan 2018 Data Scientist of the Year to speak March 28th

2018 Data Scientist of the Year Michael Phelan, Ph.D., will be speaking at First Data’s R+D Centre on how to turn business data into actionable insights using data science. While “data science” is a popular buzzword these days, Dr. Phelan will explain how real data science comes from all elements in the business (including operations and subject-matter experts) partnering to understand what the organization’s data is truly saying.

Dr. Phelan has more than 15 years of experience in data science and is an active promoter of data science in Ireland on the global stage. His experience ranges from lecturing undergraduate students and leading award-winning master’s projects to consulting with large-scale multinationals and presenting at conferences around the globe.

The free talk is hosted by First Data’s Midwest Excellence in Technology meetup series, which brings leaders and experts into Nenagh to share their expertise with members of the technology community. This technology thought leadership series is part of a commitment from the R+D centre—which was recently named a Great Place to Work®—to give back to the community and support the development of local talent for the international marketplace. Previous sessions have explored topics such as building the business case for DevOps and Agile methodology with speakers from around the country.

The event will be held on Thursday, 28 March, from 7:30 – 9 PM at Stereame Business Centre (E45 WF84). Register at
