MediaCon,Ireland’s first ever-international TV Summit closed last night in the Mansion House with a discussion on the opportunity and pitfalls that Ireland faces in becoming an international digital television hub.
The final discussion entitled “Creativity INC: Making Ireland the Centre for Global Television” – Glen Killane of RTE, Emmy Award-winning director Gary Benz, James Hickey CEO of the Irish Film Board, Alon Dolev of TV Format Fund and Morgan O’Sullivan, Managing Director of World 2000 discussed how Ireland can take on and become the main hub for digital television for the world.
James Hickey CEO of the Irish Film Board warned that various agencies in Ireland had to be cognizant of investing in the development of talent and writers and “more has to be done” for television and feature films to thrive.
Other discussion panels in front of the near 300 crowd in the Mansion House this evening featured “The Future of Funding Content” with Damon Berger of Fullscreen in the US, Alex Connock of Shine and John P.Gleeson of Grant Thorton while Rune Moklebust Head of Programming of NRK in Norway discussed the scandic phenomenon of “slow television” as a point of innovation in content.
