Maximise your return in search with UX & CRO, insights with Mark Lilley, speaking at 3XE, October 19th

By @SimonCocking, interview with Mark Lilley, Co-Founder and Director at Groundswell. Mark will be speaking at the upcoming 3XE event on Thursday, October 19th. See more and get tickets here.

1 min pitch for what you are doing now?

Having recently co-founded an ecommerce consultancy / agency I’m in the middle of lots of things. We are a blend between consultancy and agency and primarily act as an extension of in-house teams to help accelerate growth. Days are spent with clients on strategy and direction or managing services for clients across PPC, CRO, Analytics and Marketing Automation.

How was the last 12 months, what worked well, what didn’t move as quickly as you would have liked?

The last 12 months have been very exciting, it’s close to 12 months ago I made the final decision to leave employment and create an ecommerce consultancy. Since then things have moved quickly and we are growing fast. To be honest we are still at the stage of working out what is working well and what isn’t!

We have created the agency to help tackle the very question of ‘what hasn’t moved as quickly as you would have liked?’. A differentiator we bring to the market is the fact everyone in the agency has been client side with a lot of experience across acquisition, conversion and retention. More often than not a major bottle neck is resource and the skills to execute. Teams time can be sucked into day-to-day management, meetings, sales pressure etc. leaving no time to generate insight, question your data and prioritise opportunities. We help clients identify opportunities, set out strategy and also execute.

What are your plans for the future?

Focus on delivering results for our clients, grow the agency, expand the team and become a desired place to work.

What will you be talking about at this event?

I’m going to talk about the importance of marrying your search and advertising efforts with user experience and conversion optimisation. We believe a joined up approach is critical for successful growth within ecommerce and ‘turning on the taps’ without paying enough attention to the complete journey can waste a lot of money. We also come across a lot of businesses who haven’t configured and implemented analytics correctly so I will touch on the importance of measurement to help with prioritisation and enable sustained growth.

What inspired you to attend it?

A good friend Gareth Dunlop, @dunlop7 recommended it, you guys were kind enough to invite me and it’s always great to have the opportunity to meet and learn from others in the industry.

Which influencers and websites do you follow to keep up to date with the latest developments?

Big fan of ConverisonXL and LunaMetrics

How can people find out more about what you are working on?

We will be expanding our website soon , via twitter @GroundswellGro and welcome to connect with me on LinkedIn https://uk.linkedin.com/in/markrlilley
