Maker Faire Rome 2023: The New Ideas and Innovations to Watch

I recently returned from a fantastic trip to Maker Faire Rome at Fiera di Roma, in it’s 11th edition.  It’s been my favourite event of the year for several years now.  This event is organised every year by the Italian Trade Agency and the Chamber of Commerce of Rome.  In this article I’m going to outline several of the fantastic innovations that made it to this years’ event.

Babelscape

The story of Babelscape began in 2016 and its mission is focussed on multilingual Natural Language Processing. Understanding the sentiment that your customer writes about your business online; can be a challenge. This is why the deep tech involved in this technology from Babelscape comes into its own. I met with Professor Roberto Navigli on the left and Linguistic Manager Simone Stirpe on the right at their stand and they outlined how Babelscape worked (video).

Their area of expertise is bringing together a neuro-symbolic approach which combine knowledge graphs and deep learning models.  I won’t pretend to understand fully what they do but I know that understanding the sentiment of what your audience is saying, helps you see if your messaging, customer service and brand is hitting the targets you want for your content.

Their technology can understand semantics, which is a whole study in language of itself.  It helps you understand the subtle changes of meaning in a word or sentence.  I can see a lot of large brands finding this tool essential.  Please check the links and video above to learn more.

MyEasy Farm

This cheerful chap here is Vittorio Boneschi, the Italian Business Development Manager for MyEasy Farm.  It was founded in 2017 by François Thierart. This French AgTech startup specialises in Precision Agriculture and Low Carbon Agriculture.

Going by the statistics from Statista.com, “In 2022, agriculture contributed around 1.08 percent to the GDP of Ireland, 41.05 percent came from the industry and 52.3 percent from the service sector.”  This is a large area of growth to Ireland and I felt it important to better understand this new technology.

With this new platform they claim you can optimise your profitability and yields.  They also say that you can potentially save €50 to €100 per year, per hectare using it as well.  Simply not needing to do manual data entry saves you an enormous amount of time and means you can optimise your input stocks.

It’s also compatible with a lot of agricultural equipment and with plot management and CAD systems on the market.  Another bonus is you can try it out for free for 30 days!

CMS Law Tax Future
After having a chat with Gian Marco Lettieri, I found out that had a varied and comprehensive business offering.  This company is massive!  Established in 1999 with over 5,800 Lawyers in 81 offices, they have enjoyed a meteoric growth over the last few years
Delivering an international package of information, support and consultation from Antitrust issues to Public Procurement, they have a vast staff that can assist.
They use technology toolkits and software to aid in areas like legal, regulatory and business challenges that owners/founders face.  With these solutions they can automate lots of processes and streamline workflows.  They can also create custom solutions as needed too.

Haptic Synaptic

I was drawn immediately to this table as lots of children were milling around it.  It was a bracelet maker with a difference.  It was offering an in-road to

It was offering an in-road to understanding and using robotics for children over 5 and up.  The team at Haptic Synaptic know that to retain a child’s interest its best to mix it up with varied topics.  Research has shown that bringing together things like biology, environment, and societal norms for the very first time.

They currently don’t have a working website, but they do have a newsletter that goes out fortnightly that suggests activities girls can do, sharing inspiring stories and even recommending books and movies.  The recommendations are all science backed, action orientated, and you literally don’t have to have prior knowledge for both parent and children.

pOsti

This is Virgilia Maretto the CEO and Co Founder of pOsti.  Virgiliao and his team were sharing their app and resources at MFR2023.

The app is part of the #NECTAR Project. This tool  creates an accurate matching between individual needs and preferences, in terms of metabolism, nutrition, taste, sustainability and the specific characteristics of foods. Through AI, IoT and blockchain, the platform perfects this connection, ensuring that each individual receives tailor-made food advice, offering a nutritionally adequate diet in line with taste preferences and the personal values ??of each individual.

The scope of innovation, determination and imagination at this event is always so impressive.  The opportunity to meet these lovely people was made possible by so many partners and co-ordinators and as usual it was seamless.

If you have a new project, idea, app, tool, game or more – then consider registering to this fantastic event next year.
