Magnet providing Free Wi-Fi at Galway Food Festival

Good news for those who like to tweet and eat, Google on-the-go or even snap a ‘sambo selfie’, as Irish telecoms provider, Magnet Networks, has announced that it will be providing free Wi-Fi at this year’s Galway Food Festival Village.

This is a first for the Galway Food Festival, but not for Magnet who already provides Wi-Fi at many major events including the X-Factor auditions, NFL tailgate parties and rugby matches at Wembley stadium.

The Galway Food Festival, now in its fifth year, runs over five days this Easter weekend from Thursday, 24th until Monday, 28th March. Attracting more than 70,000 visitors last year, the event celebrates Galway as a good food destination with a strong focus on artisan, seasonal and local produce.

The complimentary Wi-Fi from Magnet Networks will be available in the Festival Village located at The Spanish Arch. Festival goers just need to select  “food_festival” from the available wireless networks on their device and follow the on-screen instructions to connect.

Speaking of the service, Galway City Council’s Liam Hanrahan said: “Galway City Council is happy to have been able to facilitate the public Wi-Fi at the Food Festival and the work with Magnet to date. This pilot project will be of huge benefit to the festival scene in Galway and will also be supporting the Galway2020 bid to become the European Capital of Culture.”

Phil Clapperton, who heads up Magnet’s Galway operation, added: “The Galway Food Festival is a great annual showcase of Galway’s vibrant and creative food community and culture. Magnet is delighted to be providing free Wi-Fi for the event. We expect visitors to be using it to ‘check-in’ online, share photos on social media and navigate the online festival programme.”

Magnet recently rolled out a new Wi-Fi solution for businesses that gives additional services including managed hardware, security gateway and guest login email capture.

In January this year the company opened new offices in Galway, as it set up its West of Ireland hub to provide local account management to companies in the region availing of Magnet’s full suite of telecoms solutions.
