Irish Alarm Clock App That Gives You Cheap Taxis and Healthy Breakfast Discounts Launches

Two young Irish entrepreneurs have developed alarm clock app that rewards its users for getting up in the morning.

The app, called FirstUp, has signed its first national partnership with Pieta House, supported by Electric Ireland and will be providing users with rewards such as healthy breakfasts and discounted taxis for waking up using the FirstUp alarm.

FirstUp was co-founded by Ruaidhri Finnegan and Dan Moriarty (27), and over 2000 people signed up to take part in an early release version of the app, which is being launched on the 11th of May.

Ruaidhri Finnegan said: “Most alarm clocks seem to want to shock or frighten you into waking, which if you think about is not exactly the most welcoming start to the day.
We want to turn this on its head by having an alarm app that not only looks and sounds great – but actually gives you reward goals to work towards in exchange for using our alarm.”

Pieta House and Electric Ireland through the FirstUp app are offering users €5 mytaxi (formerly Hailo) vouchers and deals in popular healthy restaurant chain Cocu to their users for waking up using the FirstUp alarm.
The intention is to utilise FirstUp as a channel to celebrate Electric Ireland’s successful partnership Pieta House’s Darkness into Light event that brought over 150,000 people out across Ireland in aid of suicide prevention awareness.

How FirstUp works: All users have to do is pick their desired reward and then turn their alarm off each morning. Users repeat this process until they have earned the necessary number of “sleeps” they need to redeem their reward (only 1 sleep can be earned per calendar day). An email is then sent to the user with a unique code to redeem the reward.
