Ireland’s Top Tech CEOs gather to discuss the gap in female professionals in Ireland’s technology sector

Senior leaders from 18 top technology companies in Ireland met yesterday to discuss the continuing gender gap in the technology industry across Ireland.

The annual Connecting Women in Technology (CWIT) CEO Forum met in eir’s headquarters in Dublin today to discuss the importance of promoting careers in STEM at school level and to profile female role models working in the industry to break the perception that professions in STEM are not better suited to males over females.

A recent CWIT study revealed that 59% of secondary school girls still do not know enough about STEM and 22% of them believe that STEM subjects in school match ‘male careers. , The focus of today’s event was to communicate the positive results achieved by CWIT member companies in the past year and to lay out the strategy for the year ahead. This includes addressing how together they will continue to strive for gender equality across the technology industry through their active participation in practical programmes such as Digital Futures that targets Transition Year students, collaboration with Teen Turn and with DCU on their innovative STEM Teacher Internship programme to help attract females through themed networking events for women at all levels.
