Introduction to High Performance Computing for SMEs, April 4th, Dublin

By @SimonCocking. We spoke with Sufian Al Aswad to find out more about the Technical Workshop on 4th April. This is hands on day for SMEs and startups to get a taste of HPC technology and how they can tweak and improve their software in terms of scalability and performance. The event is funded by EU Commission under H2020 project SESAME NET, it will take place on 4th April at the Chartered Accountants House on Pearse St.

09:00 – 09:30: Introduction to HPC technologies and applications

09:30 – 10:00: HPC principles

10:00 – 10:45: Working in a HPC environment, hands-on session

10:45 – 11:15: Tea/coffee Break

11:15 – 12:30: Node-level performance considerations

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch

13:30 – 15:00: Parallel programming concepts, threading (incl. hands-on session)

15:00 – 15:30: Tea/coffee Break

15:30 – 17:00: Parallel programming concepts, message passing (incl. hands-on session)

The Day is very technical in its focus, so no death by powerpoint, attendees will have to get their hands dirty – its like a hackathon, only for HPC.

Registration is open for industry/private sector employees and staff ONLY, on a first come first served basis. Participation in the course is free of charge.

Each participant must bring along a wifi-equipped laptop to the course for practical exercises. Ideally the laptop should have SSH client software installed (e.g. PuTTY for Windows) prior to attendance.
