What is your background briefly?

My areas of interests include executive education, executive coaching, leadership development, women leadership and mindfulness.

Does it seem like a logical background to what you do now?

Not exactly. I keep exploring various areas in which I am passionate about. I experiment a lot in my life to add value to others.

1 min pitch for what you are doing now?

Currently I am giving finishing touches my book titled, Spiritual Leadership: Stop Existing and Start Living.

You work in a range of areas, how you balance this?

I don’t multitask. I undertake one area and work very hard to contribute my best. And then undertake another area.

How do you get ideas to author books?

I do research regularly and write articles and books. During my teaching and training programs participants ask me many questions. I reply them. I also get new triggers from them. I have the habit of jotting down the triggers and taking feedback at the end of each session. Hence, I thank my audiences for asking me amazing questions. I always opine that if audiences ask more questions, the session is more interesting. I also receive lots of e-mails across the world with questions. Of course, I receive a lot of feedback from the world about my books. I take feedback positively and improve myself.

What advice do you have for future leaders?

Lead by example. Be transparent and build trust. The days of leadership and followership are gone. Adopt soft leadership coined by me which is getting great response globally. Here is the definition of Soft Leadership: “Soft leadership can be defined as the process of setting goals; influencing people through persuasion; building strong teams; negotiating them with a win-win attitude; respecting their failures; handholding them; motivating them constantly; aligning their energies and efforts; recognizing and appreciating their contribution in accomplishing organizational goals and objectives with an emphasis on soft skills. It is based on the right mindset, skill set, and toolset.”

Be prepared for challenges. Partner with your employees. Value your employees as people, not as workers. If you keep your employees happy, they will keep your customers happy. Happy customers improve your organizational bottom lines. Hence, value your employees to add value to your company, and to grow as a great leader.

What is your lifetime goal?

I started a non-profit Vision 2030: One Million Global Leaders:  It is a non-profit initiative to build one million students as global leaders by 2030. So far, I have trained 35,000 students as global leaders. Presently, the Baby Boomers are retiring and there is a leadership-deficit globally as Millennials (Generation Y) are not trained to take up leadership roles and responsibilities. Since I belong to Generation X, I consider it an opportunity to train and groom young students as global leaders.

Which traits make millennials more effective?

Millennials are ambitious, smart and tech-savvy. They are focused on their career who believe more in smart work than hard work. They are impatient to achieve their goals. They must learn to achieve success with integrity. They must understand the fact that there is no shortcut to success.

What are your messages to the world?

I have three messages to the world. First, be a continuous learner and take feedback constantly to grow in life. As long as you love and learn, you are young. The day you stop loving people and learning things, you become old. Second, love your mother, but don’t hate another person’s mother. Love your caste, culture, community, race, ethnicity, region, religion, and nation, but don’t hate another person’s caste, culture, community, race, ethnicity, culture, region, religion, and nation. As your mother is precious to you, another person’s mother is equally precious to them. Third, respect women and create a gender equal world (#HeForShe). https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/create-gender-equal-worldprofessor-ms-rao-phdheforshe-rao/?published=t
