To show how easy it is for aspiring and established authors to publish on Kindle, Amazon teamed up with writing.ie and a team of bestselling authors to bring an event to Dublin last weekend. ‘How to Independently Publish with Amazon’ took place at the Davenport Hotel and was live streamed in libraries across Ireland.
Following the event, Amazon.co.uk revealed that readers across the world are embracing books by Irish authors.
The US, Australia and New Zealand are some of the countries where readers are downloading the most work by Irish independently-published authors through Amazon’s Kindle store. These Irish authors are also popular in Canada, Germany, Denmark and Brazil. The authors publish their work for global audiences to enjoy using Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) programme.
Authors who are popular across the world for Kindle downloads include Jean Reinhardt, author of the best-selling Irish Family Saga, international bestseller Melissa Hill and Ryan Lock series author Sean Black.
The top ten countries in terms of sales for Amazon’s top ten best-selling Irish KDP authors are:
2. Great Britain
5. New Zealand
Jean Reinhardt best selling author said: “KDP has changed my life, helping me to achieve a lifelong goal. Three years after publishing my first book on Amazon I have been able to give up my work in the beauty industry to concentrate on being a full time writer. For me, KDP provides access to a global market that I could never achieve on my own.”
Melissa Hill author of a Gift to Remember said: “Reaching lots of readers is every author’s goal, and thanks to KDP it’s possible to achieve that with the touch of a button. The publishing programme is very simple to use and the technical support is second to none. KDP is a vital part of my publishing strategy and has been instrumental in helping me grow my own readership, enabling my books to find new readers across the globe.”
Louise Ross, the author of the international number one best-selling series of DCI Ryan mystery novels, and who was at the event said: “I am delighted to be participating in Amazon’s ‘How to Publish Independently’ conference, in association with Writing.ie. Ireland has a long and proud literary history and a wealth of emerging new talent, so it’s a pleasure to be able to talk about my experience publishing through Amazon KDP and to encourage other writers to achieve their own success. In less than two years, I’ve been able to reach more than half a million people around the world through four consecutive bestsellers, and I’m excited to be able to share what I’ve learned in the hope that other people can do it too.”
Mark Dawson, best-selling author of the John Milton series said: “I’m delighted to be in Dublin. It’s not so long ago that I was trying to work out how to get my stories into the hands of new readers, and to have the chance to pass on some of the strategies that have worked for me is going to be great fun.”
Publishing on KDP takes less than five minutes and the book appears on Kindle stores worldwide within 24-48 hours. Authors to retain their copyrights, keep control, distribute globally, get to market fast and do it for free. With royalties of up to 70% many thousands of authors now earn a living through KDP.
