Intel Ireland partners with TU Dublin to celebrate students

Last Tuesday, February 25th, Intel Ireland awarded the latest recipients of a scholarship programme for Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin) students. Taking place in Kevin Street, the event also saw TU Dublin graduate Eamonn Sinnott, Vice President, Manufacturing and Operations, and General Manager of Intel Ireland, return to his alma mater to talk about his memorable journey from Kevin Street to leading Intel in Ireland.

For over a century, Kevin Street has been synonymous with scientific and technological education in Ireland. Generations of graduates have gone on to become leaders and innovators in high-tech sectors in Ireland and across the globe, carrying with them memories of Kevin Street. One of the most successful graduates of his generation is Eamonn Sinnott who the University invited back to Kevin Street for one last time as it prepares to move 10,000 students to its flagship campus in Grangegorman.

In conversation with Dave Kilmartin, Head of the Career Development Centre at TU Dublin, Eamonn shared his memories of student life in Kevin Street, lessons he has learned along the way and his thoughts about the skills and competencies that students need to forge a successful career in this technological era.

Concluding the event, the Intel Ireland Scholarship recipients were presented with their awards. The Scholarships were established as part of a far-reaching programme of collaboration in future talent development, research and engagement announced by Intel and the University in February 2019. It provides recipients with €3,000 to support their academic studies and a mentor from Intel Ireland to help them build a direct relationship to the world of work.

Eamonn Sinnott, Vice President, Manufacturing and Operations, and General Manager of Intel Ireland, Bernie Capraro, Intel Research and Higher Education Programme Manager and  Professor David FitzPatrick, President of TU Dublin, presented the Intel Ireland Scholarship recipients with their awards. The awardees were as follows:

Computer Science Scholar
Valentin Octavian Ciceu, from Smithfield, Dublin 7 who attended St. Patrick’s Cathedral Grammar School

Control and Automation System Engineering Scholar
Glen Carton, from Bray, Co. Wicklow who attended St. Kilian’s Community School, Bray

Electronics and Communications Engineering Scholar
Talha Tallat, from Boyle, Co. Roscommon who attended Abbey Community College, Roscommon

Mechanical Engineering Scholars
Tadeusz Rembisz, from Lucan, Co.Dublin who attended Adamstown Community College
Viva Ferguson, from Inchicore, Dublin 8 who attended St. Louis High School, Rathmines
Kehinde Olowookere, from Dundalk, Co. Louth who attended St. Mary’s College, Dundalk
