Incereb partners with SIBEN and enters the South American Market bringing simplified neonatal EEG monitoring to clinicians across the continent

Incereb Limited, the Dublin based medical device designer and manufacturer of neonatal EEG electrode arrays has announced a partnership with SIBEN (La Sociedad Iberoamericana de Neontalogía) that will see the introduction of a new range of neonatal sensors for brain monitoring and physiological measurement in countries across Latin and South America.

Incereb’s flagship product range neon™ is a neonatal EEG Electrode array that enables non-specialist hospital staff to attach a brain activity monitoring device in minutes to detect seizures in new born infants.  Previously specialist EEG (electroencephalogram) staff were needed to install the technology that detects electrical brain impulses in children, giving vital data for early detection of oxygen deprivation and other life-threatening abnormalities.

SIBEN’s President, Sergio G. Golombek, MD, MPH, FAAP, commented “Perinatal asphyxia is a significant public health problem in Latin America. We hope that newer technologies like this will allow us to better diagnose and treat these very sick new-born infants”.

James Roche, Founder and CEO, says “there are approx. 10 million babies born in South America annually, the rate of admissions to the NICU stands at approx. 17.5% and we know that there is a global shortage of trained EEG technologists worldwide.  The ability to quickly and easily commence neonatal EEG monitoring with minimal training is a very compelling proposition for hospitals, clinicians and the parents of patients across South America.  Accessing this market also represents a major opportunity for Incereb as the market could be worth more than €19m over the next five years. This announcement builds on the appointment, in January 2017, of Brian Fawcett as Director of Distribution for Incereb in North and Latin America”.

According to globalhealthintelligence.com the fetal & neonatal care equipment market in Latin America is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.1% between 2015 and 2019, they also expect the neuro monitoring devices market in Brazil to be the fastest growing patient monitoring market in Brazil for that period.
