HUMAN + MACHINE Reimagining work in the age of AI, reviewed

By @SimonCocking, review of HUMAN + MACHINE Reimagining work in the age of AI, by Paul Daugherty and Jim Wilson. See more on their website here.

In Human + Machine, Accenture leaders Paul Daugherty and Jim Wilson show that the essence of the AI paradigm shift is the transformation of all business processes within an organization—whether related to breakthough innovation, everyday customer service, or personal productivity habits. As humans and smart machines collaborate ever more closely, work processes become more fluid and adaptive, enabling companies to change them on the fly—or to completely reimagine them. AI is changing all the rules of how companies operate.

This is a smart, thoughtful and non skynet vision of the future. It is well researched, plausibly presented and goes through some smart and inspiring case studies. This is very much a bridge between where we are now, and what tomorrow, the near future, and the more distant future could or will look like. It’s also written in an open and accessible manner so that the general reader can read it, enjoy it, and understand it. Next to read it in our household will be our teenagers, and they will also be able to identify and gain insights from it.

The book goes through a variety of use-cases, in different industries, and in different scenarios, and comes up with some plausible and helpful ways in which AI can help. Here at Irish Tech News we are already working with a beta AI api, and the results have already been impressive. It is very much an illustration of the fact that good AI / machine learning can enhance human experience and wisdom, rather than replace it. This book officially goes on sale on March 20th and we heavily recommend it.
