Huawei Ireland Video Intelligence Forum 2018 takes place October 23rd

The 3rd Annual Huawei Ireland Video Intelligence Forum 2018 takes place in Dublin on October 23rd.

To find out more about the event and why people should attend, we spoke with Derek Collins, Director of Industry Engagement & Co-operation at Huawei.

When and where is it on?

October 23rd, Thomas Davis Theatre,  Arts Block, Trinity College Dublin

How many years has it been going?

This is the 3rd year

What was the inspiration to start it?

The Inspiration was to put Ireland on the European map as one of the best arenas for Video/Media/Surveillance Research, given the eco-system and calibre of Key Professors and Innovation start-ups in the Video, Media and entertainment space. Huawei has also chosen Ireland to lead their Video Computation Research efforts based on the surrounding environment and available talent.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

This is a chance to hear leading Researchers form prestige’s Institutes share their Insights and Research into the Impact of Artificial Intelligence has on Video and particularly Surveillance and Human safety given the current global climate.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

A great chance to Network and share ideas, at break out POSTER sessions and to meet Speakers in the evening over a drink and some music. For Students, it’s an ideal platform to listen to great researchers and here what is happening in Huawei from a Chinese perspective.

Who will be speaking?

11 Key Researchers from across the globe, most notably Professor Luc Van Gool of ETH Zurich who is a world-renowned leader in AI and Machine Learning and the impact it has on society. We have been trying from year one to attract him to Ireland.

What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?

Come early, stay for the evening session, and prepare to ask questions, probe and challenge thinking. Plenty of Q&A opportunities to express thoughts and food for debate

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?

There is an Eventbrite page and the venue only holds 200 max, and usually fills up about 2 weeks prior to the date.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

My aim with the help of SFI, IDA and the Academic Community is to make this an annual European event and put Ireland on the map and make this a Key Forum on the Speaker circuit.
