The ADAPT Centre for Digital Content Technology, led by Trinity College Dublin, and Huawei Technologies today announced a new research and development collaboration to advance innovation across the spectrum of video and media technologies. This collaboration will further connect Huawei and Trinity researchers.
China-headquartered Huawei is the world’s biggest mobile telecoms equipment company. The collaboration agreement will bring together academic and business expertise, allowing them work side-by-side to advance new technologies and solutions that will transform how we consume video content. This partnership with the ADAPT Centre has strategic importance for Huawei, who recently chose Ireland for a new video research lab due to the world class expertise within the Centre.
The announcement coincides with the visit of Guo Ping, Huawei Deputy Chairman & Rotating CEO to Ireland. In 2017, Huawei’s R&D investment in Ireland will total to $21 million (€17.7 million), a significant increase from 2016.
ADAPT provides a partnership between academia and industry in the field of digital content technology, leading on ground breaking digital transformation innovations. The academic expertise and commercial leadership brought together by Huawei will ensure people and businesses can enjoy the benefits of advanced video technology sooner.
