Hewlett Packard confirmed earlier what the Internet had been speculating. Leo Apotheker has been replaced as CEO by Meg Whitman (former eBay CEO).
Apotheker was seen as the person who could revitalise HP. His task was to bring HP to the next level while integrating their recent acquisition Palm.
During his tenure quiet the opposite has happened. He marginalised Palm to the point where they recently announced that their would be no more mobile devices created running Web OS.
HP’s stock price has nearly halved in his time and maybe the most curious decision he presided over was the plan to spin off HP’s core PC business. That decision may have broke the Camel’s back!
What direction HP now takes under their new CEO will only become apparent in the next few months but it would be of no surprise to me if some of the decisions that were made of late will be reversed.
