Why do you think it is such a powerful idea?
I really think we need to address the idea of excessive and unnecessary travel for work-related purposes. Do we really need to travel to other cities and countries to attend meetings? I think we can, at least part of the time, achieve similar results remotely online. It’s a discussion worth having with work colleagues and managers.
Don’t you think?
How soon will remote working be more common?
The idea of working remotely is already very common amongst freelancers and the concept of “The Gig Economy” will only increase exponentially over time.
It just makes so much sense!!
Have you found yourself asking these questions recently?
Why should I sit on a plane for hours and hours when much of the work can be done remotely via video conferencing?
Why should I spend days on end away from my family and friends when I can get most of the important tasks done online?
Is there a better way that allows for more Work/Life Balance?
A Recent Example
I was recently asked to speak in Jamaica and although I considered flying there, I opted to
“ZOOM IN” to the conference instead, and here’s why:
The Time
It would have taken me 27 hours to fly from Melbourne to Jamaica and would have involved 3 flights.
Melbourne to LA
LA to Miami
Miami to Kingston
The Cost
The combined cost of these 3 flights was $2,700 (ouch)
Instead, I offered to speak at the conference via Zoom at a fraction of the cost of attending live.
The conference organisers saved loads of money on my flights & accommodation and I saved heaps of time not flying there.
WIN/WIN
As it happens, we used Adobe Connect this time around and there are loads of other great variations as well.
The other major advantage here is that we were able to tap into a GLOBAL audience online and indeed we had 38 people from around the world asking questions online while I was speaking to a live audience in Jamaica.
It’s very cool.
So why not try doing some of your work remotely? It could save you heaps of time and your company heaps of money. It’s definitely worth considering!!
Benefits of Online Meetings & Conferences
(The Triple Bottom Line)
There are several advantages to this approach and everyone wins here.
1. Employers & conference organisers both win because the costs of running events and of sending staff to them are dramatically reduced.
2. The individuals themselves benefit from less travel time and therefore have much more quality time to spend with family and friends.
3. The environment is a big winner too with a dramatic reduction in emissions due to less travel being required for participants and presenters.
How can people find out more about you & your work?
