When given the opportunity to speak with Daniel Kindstrand, CEO and Founder of HeroSight I couldn’t say no. I was instantly intrigued on how this would work from the time I had heard about it.

Daniels own background is varied and interesting. He started out as a Journalist himself working in countries undergoing conflict and he even undertook trauma training himself with the Swedish Defence Force and a course in London. He has also worked on Commercial Fleet container ships that have used exhaustive fire drills helped him shape the idea of HeroSight.

I could quickly see why the idea had come to him with a background like his and asked about how the equipment works. He said that unlike other solutions that are out there for instance that include VR, let’s say, uts were you leave reality completely and end up in virtual space.
His technology augments and enhances reality in real time. It means you feel the person, touch and hear them screaming in pain and the worried gawkers. This would be very resource heavy to practice if doing it in reality.
This tool means you could spend far less money and time in sourcing “actors”, make up and of course all the location preparation.
As these headsets are portable it means that your training can be undertaken more locally (or indeed In-House) to you as well. So no full days out having to pay staff for travel and parking etc if you don’t need too.
Although they are currently an early stage start up they have a prototype ready that uses hardware by Microsoft HoloLens. The prototype is scheduled to be ready by the 1st of November. The focus of this product is to be the prime learning tool for emergency services.
I was curious how this tool would be measurable in its current form and Daniel explained that in every scenario throughout the simulation, it will measure your reaction time and what injuries or emotions draws your attention on arrival to a simulated scene.
He mentioned that Microsoft HoloLens version 2 will include eye monitoring / eye tracking and it has already been launched but not yet available in Sweden.
There is still so much they can do to improve this model, however they wanted to start with a learning tool that would stand alone and be thoroughly effective from the outset. HeroSight will initially be a single player tool but in future Daniel says they hope to make it multiplayer dashboard in order that more responders can enter the same scene alongside one another.
They are beginning talks with Business Angels and building on collaborative efforts with Lazarus Training in London. They will also continue to attend numerous pitching events and demonstrate their product at conferences and events in the coming months.
