Healthwave launches the first digital Viagra service in Ireland

Good news for those bored in lockdown. Leading Dublin based digital pharmacy, Healthwave has launched Ireland’s first digital Viagra dispensing service.

This follows the announcement that Pfizer ‘Viagra Connect’ is now available ‘over-the-counter’ without the need for a prescription from a doctor in Ireland for the first time.

The new Healthwave digital dispensing service will incorporate a digital pharmacist consultation and nationwide delivery, same day for Dublin, of the ‘Viagra Connect’ medication for a single fee of €25.

“We are launching our Viagra digital dispensing service in response to both Viagra Connect becoming available for pharmacists to prescribe and the gap left by online UK doctors unable to issue prescriptions to Irish patients. This is the first of a number of digital pharmacist prescribing services we will launch in 2021”, said Shane O’Sullivan, pharmacist, and CEO of Healthwave.

Given the sensitive nature of erectile dysfunction, many men have used online doctor services for prescriptions to access Viagra for dispensing in an Irish pharmacy. However, due to Brexit, prescriptions issued by online doctors, often based in the UK, to Irish patients are no longer valid.

Patients using the new Healthwave service can complete their consultation online which will be reviewed by a pharmacist prior to the dispatch of the medication.

“We believe that medications shouldn’t be sold online without proper consultation and pharmacist review. Our digital pharmacy platform now incorporates age and identity verification and enables us to provide best in class remote pharmacist consultations and medication delivery by text or phone to patients across Ireland”, O’Sullivan added.

Erectile Dysfunction is the first condition available through Healthwave’s digital pharmacist prescribing service for medicines that no longer require prescriptions. The Healthwave CareBot platform has software-assisted pathways designed by the pharmacist team at Healthwave to enable safe digital pharmacist prescribing. The digital pharmacist prescribing feature is also capable of referring to the patient’s GP. Healthwave’s digital pharmacy will handle the entire consultation, review, and delivery process.

Medicines for Erectile Dysfunction are commonly bought online, from unregulated sources, which can pose a major health risk to consumers. The new Healthwave service ensures patients are receiving authorised medications from an Irish registered pharmacy.
