GlobalSTL Health Innovation Summit focuses on new technologies for the care industry

When and where is it on?

GlobalSTL Health Innovation Summit, June 27, 2018 in St. Louis, Missouri, USA

How many years has it been going?

Second annual summit. The first resulted in six international companies making business deals with St. Louis-based health care organizations.

What was the inspiration to start it?

To introduce new technologies from around the world to the St. Louis health care industry that can specifically solve challenges in hospital operations and patient care and delivery, and thus bring competitive advantage. Ireland is a top recruitment country for GlobalSTL’s mission, as it produces particularly strong EMR solutions.

GlobalSTL is the international company recruitment initiative of BioSTL. Its goals are three-fold:

  1. Provide St. Louis companies access to cutting-edge technology to boost their competitive advantage;
  2. Grant the international companies access to prized U.S. customers and strategic partners;
  3. Leverage the first two wins to convince these international companies to open a U.S. headquarters in St. Louis, thus creating jobs and bringing economic activity into the ecosystem.

What exciting things can people look forward to?

128 one-on-one meetings with decision makers.

GlobalSTL got a “shopping list” from the St. Louis health care industry, which has more purchasing power than Boston, Cleveland or Philadelphia, and then sought out technologies to solve problems. The highly-curated event leads to real deal-making between these international companies and decision makers at these top hospitals and corporations.

What opportunities are on offer for those attending?

As the international entrepreneurs stated in the video (link above), the GlobalSTL Health Innovation Summit got them meetings with top decision makers from organizations that are prized U.S. customers. What could take months to land a meeting happened in less than 24 hours, thanks to GlobalSTL’s connections.

Who will be speaking?

Each international company will pitch to these decision makers and then have curated, one-on-one meetings with those most interested in their technologies. Irish companies CliniShift (a communication platform connecting clinical staff with hospital managers who manage rosters and off duty scheduling, leading to cost savings and better workforce utilization) and HealthBeacon (a medication adherence technology company with smart Sharps bins and tools for patients who self-inject medications at home) have been invited to the Summit.

Jason Dinger, Chief Incubation Officer at Ascension, will deliver the keynote.

How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
Note: this is an invitation-only Summit. Applications for next year’s event will be posted online.

Anything else you’d like to add / we should have asked?

Brookings Institution has recognized this creative approach of BioSTL and its GlobalSTL initiative as a national model for attracting global innovation and growing mid-size cities in America.
