When is it on?

How many years has it been going?
Ward Solutions ran its first GDPR awareness seminar in Belfast in November 2016. Due to the popularity of this event, Ward ran a follow-up event in Dublin in February 2017 in RCPI. Again, this event proved to be immensely popular, and it’s by popular demand that this latest event is being held.
What was the inspiration to start it?
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is set to come into force on 25th May 2017. This legislation is set to have a huge impact on any organisation that processes personal data. The inspiration to start the event stemmed from a desire to raise awareness among Irish organisations about the scale of the challenge to achieve compliance to GDPR, and to provide some guidance on the steps that companies need to take towards achieving and demonstrating compliance.
What exciting things can people look forward to for the 2017 version?
While Ward’s previous events have primarily aimed to raise awareness of what GDPR means for Irish businesses, and the challenge of achieving compliance, the upcoming event in June will take a more practical approach. Industry experts from Ward Solutions and Fortinet will advise attendees on how to prioritise their information security and compliance activities to develop strategies that can identify and mitigate the risks to processing of personal data that are putting organisations at significant risk.
What opportunities are on offer for people/startups / investors and companies attending?
This event will provide insightful advice to professionals who are eager to identify the specific actions that they need to take over the course of the next 12 months. This will prove immensely valuable as the deadline for GDPR approaches. Failure to comply to GDPR could leave companies open to fines of up to €20 million or 4% of global turnover, depending on which is greater. For this reason, ensuring compliance is absolutely business critical.
Ward Solutions’ 2017 Information Security Report will also be launched at the event. Presenting an outline of the results of Ward’s 2017 Information Security Survey, the whitepaper provides insights into Irish organisations’ approach to tackling rising threats, while highlighting the challenges of taking the initial steps towards GDPR compliance. Copies will be provided to all attendees on the day.
What tips would you give to people attending to get the most out of it?
Attendees are encouraged to submit questions when they register for the event. This provides a great opportunity for Irish business owners and professionals to have their specific concerns when it comes to GDPR addressed, enabling them to leave the event more certain than ever before about the steps that they need to take next.
How can people book tickets / when does it usually sell out?
Registrations are open now at https://www.ward.ie/2017/path-to-gdpr-practical-steps-to-take/ and admission to the event is free of charge. Demand has been very high, so anyone who wishes to attend should register as soon as possible.
