As Key Gaming Genres Surge, Irish Tech Companies Stand to Benefit

This year has seen more people than ever turn to the various forms of gaming, with the already popular form of gaming growing tremendously around the world. Thanks to mobiles, price-reduced consoles, and a need to use laptops or home computers, gaming is at its pinnacle of accessibility, particularly in Europe and North America.

From December 2019 to March 2020, every major PC gaming genre of gaming saw growth, which more than likely means that similar increases were seen on the other platforms. The biggest beneficiary was the shooter genre, which saw a 40 per cent uptick, with the 36 per cent growth in gambling games and 34 per cent of deck-building games being just behind.

Gaming has been big business in Ireland for decades, and now, Irish-based tech companies are perfectly positioned to make the most of the surge in interest.

Ireland boasts the internet’s highest-rated iGaming platform

Among the fastest-rising gaming genres shown in the research above is that of the gambling genre. Online casino gaming has been well-established in Europe for an exceptionally long time. It is now starting to spread into other key jurisdictions, such as India, the United States, and the northernmost nations of South America.

The European footing is now being relied upon for global expansion, with the same brands that have won over Europe now doing so around the world.

Chief among these online casino platforms is the Irish-founded and based Paddy Power. It boasts the highest-rated casino platform with the best welcome bonus, making it very eye-catching among those looking to join the increasingly popular game genre. While being a multi-platform gaming site on its own is quite impressive, it’s the infusion of the latest innovations that have helped it surge to the top. The live casino offering and selection of increasing-jackpot Age of the Gods games keep the site at the forefront of online gaming tech.

The emerging video gaming scene of Ireland

Once Microsoft decided to supplement its PC gaming scene with its own home console, the Xbox, its base in Ireland was able to get into the gaming crowd.

Microsoft Ireland opened way back in 1985, starting as a small manufacturing facility before growing into a 2,000-employee hub for software development, IT, localisation, finance, and other vital functions. With Microsoft rooted in Ireland, it didn’t take long for other tech-savvy minds to flock to the nation and set-up gaming companies.

Several Irish tech companies have not only released games to the market, but many have worked on some of the world’s most popular releases.

For example, Tony Hawk and Call of Duty franchises have utilised Irish hardware and tooling. Middleware software has also originated from Ireland with leading publishers using Havok to create games like Dark Souls, Halo, Fallout, Super Smash Bros, and Elder Scrolls.

Ireland is already loaded with big-name gaming companies who’re making the most of the surge of interest in the entertainment medium.
