Game of Thrones final episode tonight – Winter really has arrived

No spoilers please. Actually I am only at the end of season seven so I am busy trying to avoid all Facebook spoilers or Tweets giving away news of the last season.  I have to say I am a bit of a fan – loved every episode. And for those of you that do watch it – you’ll agree that each episode is the same as a film – only it’s a series.

For those of you that don’t watch it I just want to say two things.

The first is that every so often a piece of cinema comes along that actually impacts our world. Not that we have dragons flying around but the language of the series has already infiltrated into our everyday spoken English. Winter is coming is one of the popular expressions but there are many more. It is a bit like Shakespeare – yes I actually wrote that – in the way the language of GOT lives on.  This infiltration is a combination of the language used – it is very formal – and also the repetition of some of the expressions – as in Winter is Coming.

The second thing I’d like to say is that I find it has very amusing that people who do not watch it, announce their non-watching as almost a virtue. Regularly I see conversations online or hear them where people say with pride – I never watch Game of Thrones. It is as if they have never taken drugs or told a lie. I wonder would people declare their non-watching of other programmes with the same fervour. As in  I have never watched Father Ted, or West Wing or Family Man.  I mean, really.

However, I will give you non-watchers a giggle. This is from the Daily Mail where Bark.com, normally a search platform for dog groomers and plumbers (strange combination) has set up a phone-in line manned with counsellors to deal with all the heart broken GOT fans after the last episode, so they can talk about their feelings. Now that is funny. And they get to pay $40 for the privilege of speaking with them. The fans pay I mean.

So, anyway it’s just me today as Liina is away. I am also going to Malta tomorrow to attend the Malta AI and Blockchain summit.  I am an official judge of the awards which will be handed out at the gala dinner.

Check out the summit here.

If you are around do get in touch.

But on with the show: There is some Facebook, some Elon Musk, some autonomous self-driving cars, then Binance (rarely out of the news) and football fan engagement. This is significant because if blockchain comes to sports then mass adoption is not far off.

Ole Ole Ole
