MediaCon, Ireland’s first ever international TV | Tech summit is proud to announce the latest batch of speakers taking to the stage at the Mansion House on September 8th. The event has received the universal backing of Irish industry and enterprise with RTÉ, the Irish Film Board, Dublin City Council, Enterprise Ireland and Failte Ireland all supporting the inaugural gathering. With registration now close to capacity, the organisers have announced their final lineup of speakers.
Dermot McCormack, recently appointed president of AOL Video and Studios, will discuss the communications giant’s ambitious content plans as Amazon and HBO continue to challenge Netflix for supremacy in the world of on-demand video.
“When it comes to TV and digital, It’s not a case of either/or. The human desire for good storytelling is not separated screen by screen in our brains,” said McCormack. “Good story is good story, no matter the medium. Content will always be king and what is important now is figuring out how best to target the right audience.”
McCormack is calling on Irish producers and content creators to think globally with the money-spinning international content market now, “wide open to all.”
“The opportunities for smaller markets to reach a larger and global audience have never been greater … It’s an exciting time and I am delighted to be flying to Dublin to meet with world leaders from the TV & Tech content industries,” he said.
The event is the brainchild of Lesley O’Connor, the former executive producer of The Web Summit, Founders New York and Collision Las Vegas. “When you consider its size and the quality of the delegates and speakers in attendance this is without doubt the best television industry event in Europe this year and we are delighted that it is happening in Dublin,” said O’Connor.
Some of the newly announced speakers are listed below.
Tom Huffman, Vice President of Tribune Studios, one of the US’s biggest broadcast networks will be discussing bringing back Johnny Carson and the studio’s plans for a multi-platform future.
RTÉ Managing Director Glen Killane will be outlining the national broadcaster’s global ambitions and plans for the next 12 – 24 months. Killane was elected President of the European Broadcasting Union’s TV committee in June.
Daniel Ravner who made his name with Armoza Formats in Israel will look at emerging digital trends and focus on how to capitalise upon them.
James Hickey, the Irish Film Board’s CEO will be discussing how Ireland can move forward as a film production hub in the coming years.
Ben Nemtin co-creator of MTVs ‘The Buried Life’ will outline his ambitious plans for his Four Peaks production company as projects with Vin Diesel and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniack come to fruition.
Patch May, the force behind Coconut Pete, one of Australia’s most innovative production companies will discuss the latest trends in multi-screen entertainment.
Tom Bowers, the brains behind the audience engagement strategy at The Voice UK and Million Pound Drop will discuss the multi-platform options on offer to modern producers.
Alex Demyanenko has created, developed, produced and sold over 500 hours of hit television during his time at international organisations like Freemantle US and Shed Media. Demyanenko will examine the effect of digital disruptors on the TV industry.
