Energy Cork to Host Sustainable Energies Conference

Energy Cork will be hosting a one day conference on 12th April in the Clayton Hotel in Cork City. The event will look at how to fund new and sustainable projects for renewable energy in Ireland. The conference Energy Finance for a New Era will be host to national and international bankers, investors, energy providers, entrepreneurs and businesses seeking to find innovative new ways to fund renewable energy projects in Ireland.

Speakers at the conferences will include representatives from the European Investment Bank, AIB, Power Capital, Triodos Bank, Renewable Gas Forum Ireland, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Enterprise Ireland . Also present will be Alice Whittaker of Phillip Lee Solicitors – the firm that oversaw the first Irish purchase of a Kerry wind farm by Microsoft.

Many methods of funding new sustainable and renewable energy models will be looked at and addressed at the conference. These include Energy Efficiency Financing, Blockchain, Corporate PPAs and Project Financing as well as other innovative models. “Green energy is a major growth area for Irish businesses, land owners and investors,” said Frank Caulchair of Energy Cork. “We need to de-carbonise our energy supply, improve our energy efficiency, and move to renewable energy.” Creating new and sustainable models for renewable energy can often be costly with little return on investment in the first few years. Energy Finance in a New Era will “shine a spotlight” on these new models according to Mr Caulchair.

Ireland has been moving in the direction of renewable energy for some time now with wind farms being the most obvious. More recently Ireland has moved to ban fossil fuel exploration meaning it will be the fourth country in the world to officially do so. According to a spokesperson from Energy Cork “The transition to a low carbon economy in Ireland, while challenging, presents a number of exciting commercial opportunities for SMEs, professional service organisations, energy efficiency practitioners and energy professionals.” The conference will be a look at how Ireland could potentially move forward in the field of renewable energy. “This conference will also be of interest to planners, researchers, entrepreneurs, land owners and developers, and those with an interest in how energy projects and sustainable energy companies are funded,” concluded the statement from Energy Cork.
