eir launches affordable mesh extender, Smart WiFi hub

eir today launched the Smart WiFi hub, its newest device which increases available WiFi coverage in a customer’s home. eir’s first ever mesh extender and first ever WiFi 6 device, the Smart WiFi hub is designed to help deliver WiFi to those hard-to-reach areas (WiFi blackspots) in customers’ homes. We will be reviewing this device, first up here are the product details.

eir Smart WiFi hub

With the rise of home working due to Covid-19, eir has seen an increased demand from customers to optimise their Wifi at home. As people increasingly relied on their broadband connection to work, learn, play and to stay connected it has become more important than ever to have a reliable connection in every spot of your home.

The Smart WiFi hub expands a home’s network coverage without additional wiring, increasing coverage by up to 150m2 while strengthening WiFi signal by up to ten times. The Smart WiFi hub also enables double the amount of devices to be connected wirelessly to the user’s networks while maintaining current WiFi speeds.

The eir Smart WiFi hub offers WiFi 6 which is the newest WiFi standard, handling up to 9.6Gbps and removing congestion and latency issues experienced on WiFi 5 devices. In addition, the Smart WiFi hub allows users to connect through a wired connection with 2 x 1Gbs ports, ideal for those working from home who don’t want to share WiFi bandwidth.

For eir fibre customers, install is simple, the eir Smart WiFi hub connects easily with their F3000 modem. Simply press the WPS button on both devices and the devices pair automatically, enabling the user to move the Smart WiFi hub to any location within their home.

In comparison to a WiFi extender, eir’s Smart WiFi hub is a mesh device, projecting the same wireless network ID as the modem, meaning customers do not have to connect each device separately to the Smart WiFi. Through this technology, devices seamlessly transfer between the modem and the Smart WiFi hub depending on which offers the best signal strength in that part of the home (whereas an extender does not).

Available for purchase from the 31st of March 2021, eir’s Smart WiFi hub retails at €99.99 for one device and €169.99 for two devices, making this the best value mesh device in Ireland. Working best with eir’s F3000 modem, just one Smart WiFi hub is required. With all other modems on the eir network, along with modems on other networks, a minimum of two Smart WiFi hubs are required to achieve the best coverage.
