We caught up with Oscar Michel to learn more about his film making, his thoughts on the media, creativity, and his entrepreneurial experiences since interning with Irish Tech News five years ago.
Oscar Michel studied film in Paris and then went on to Dublin to study journalism, where he did an internship with Irish Tech News. He then moved to Prague to work in Havas Worldwide, a large advertising company. After gaining some corporate experience, he co-founded his own media company, Dancing Donkey Studios.
Dancing Donkey Studios was created right after returning from a four month shoot for their first documentary feature film, The Colours of Love. Travelling around the world and interviewing people certainly is the furthest from a 9 to 5 job. But how could they find a way to make the company profitable while keeping their freedom? Ironically, the coronavirus pandemic helped them as most businesses adapted to the remote workplace. With Zoom suddenly on everyone’s devices, the Donkeys are able to work from anywhere while still doing the same creative marketing work.
Due to the pandemic, small businesses now tend to seek out cheaper ways to promote themselves, which is where they come in. Instead of paying thousands for a video ad shot from scratch, for example, the Donkeys may use their own footage but also stock footage, to cut the costs while still delivering high quality.
While marketing and branding is the breadwinner, their own creative projects are really what drives the company forwards. Their current project is called Asante Africa, a virtual art exhibition of Armando Tanzini’s art to protect African wildlife. A portion of the profits will be donated to the East African Wildlife Society to educate rangers in Kenya to fight poaching.
Dancing Donkey Studios is a media company in Prague and Geneva that can help you with your branding, marketing, and any creative projects. From creating your logo, to affordable videos, or even taking care of your social media, you can dance with us!
