It has so far raised over €4,000 for Cork ARC and Version 1 is encouraging more donations – aiming to achieve around €5,000, which Version 1 will match to take the total up to around £10,000.
Alan Crowley, Head of Delivery at Version 1, said: “We had a fantastic turnout for the 40/80km cycle, an event which is proving more and more popular each year. Cork ARC Cancer Support House are an incredibly important support for local families facing cancer and we at Version 1 are proud to be able to offer our support to the charity.
“I would urge anyone who hasn’t yet donated to visit the iDonate.ie website and give to this very worthy charity. Congratulations and thanks to all the cyclists who took part on the day. We look forward to returning to Éire ÓG next year.”
Cork ARC is a safe haven for people with cancer and their families, where they can find information, practical help and emotional support. It offers specialist professional support ranging from counselling to pilates classes to information on social welfare.
Karen O’Sullivan, Marketing and Development Manager at Cork ARC, said: “We provide our services free of charge and rely almost entirely on support from the community and local businesses. Events like the ‘Version 1 Cycle’ allow us to grow and continue these services so we are very grateful to them for choosing to support us. We are looking forward to making this bigger and better each year.”
One of the participants, Pat Ryan from Over the Hill Cycling Club, said: “Well done to Version 1 for organising the cycle today in aid of ARC House – a great cause and delighted to support it. Thanks to all of the marshalls and helpers at the food stops. Looking forward to the event again next year.”
