CongRegation 2014, Irish Social Media unconference, Cong, Co Mayo

@SimonCocking A shorter version appeared at.

CongRegation 2014, Cong, County Mayo.

A great idea to get people to visit Cong in November. This gathering was organised by Eoin Kennedy, @congregation13 , open to anyone willing to blog their way in. If you were able to do this you earned a ring side seat with the great, the good, and the just plain interesting bloggers and social media gurus of the Irish scene. Slightly tentatively I submitted my piece, which thankfully was accepted. If you can’t beat them, might as well …

The great thing was that no matter how ‘famous’, or how many twitter followers people had, they were still all very approachable and willing to talk about their experiences. The ‘unconference’ style of the event intentionally enabled this to happen. All attendees were allocated a number, which then, more or less, ensured that every hour they got to participate in a different ‘huddle’ with a different selection of Ireland’s leading social media practitioners. It was a great way to learn, listen, and occasionally contribute to really useful conversations about the technologies and techniques used to achieve effective and wide reaching impact in your chosen social media channels.

It all took place in the beautiful location of Cong, the village that seems to have several rivers running through it.

If you couldn’t make it there, all the papers submitted are on the site, and will be collated into an ebook.
