Colourful and Creative, but now, VIRTUAL Cruinniú na nÓg

Wicklow County Council today announce its Cruinniú na nÓg line up for 2020 as part of the Creative Ireland Programme, supported by RTÉ. This is the third year of Cruinniú na nÓg and there are hundreds of free creative activities taking place throughout Ireland for young people under 18 within the Government and NPHET guidelines of social distancing and staying safe.

All competitions are FREE and open to young people under 18 years with fantastic prizes including iPads and much more. To see the full programme and find details of how to sign up for any of the initiatives see www.wicklow.ie The closing date for entries is Tuesday, June 2nd 2020 at 4 pm giving people three full weeks to unleash their creative talents.

Cruinniú na nÓg is Ireland’s national day of youthful creativity and the final showcase will take place on June 13th 2020. However, this time, due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, we are creating together but keeping apart. Submitted work will be digitally showcased on June 13th on all of Wicklow County Council’s website and social media channels and on the Creative Ireland platforms.

Wicklow County Council has a series of initiatives to offer to young people living within the county for Cruinniú na nÓg. Catherine Fulvio will lead the Bake-Off, Create School will have a series of stop motion animation workshops, children’s author Sarah Webb will lead a story writing competition, there’s a category for young singer-songwriters, young filmmakers and an up-cycling heritage project. There are messages from the artists online so that in addition to the written guidelines there will be simple instructions on how to get going.

This year, to encourage participation and incentivise creativity, prizes will be awarded in all categories because young people will not be creating together in a workshop setting. Creativity packs will also be issued to young people who may not have creative resources in their home to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate.

All competitions are FREE and are open for entry now on www.wicklow.ie. Full details for participation and parental guidelines are also available on the website. The closing date for entries is Tuesday, June 2nd 2020 at 4 pm. Wicklow’s Cruinniú na nÓg is being managed by Wicklow Arts Office
