The Clowns Helping Children Laugh In Refugee Camps

In this episode of Irish Tech News we experience the magic of clowns, when Sangeeta Waldron speaks to Ash Perrin, founder and CEO of The Flying Seagull Project, a UK-based charity that uses arts workshops, music and dance lessons, circus shows and clown doctoring to transform the most challenging environments into places where children can feel safe and happy.

The Clowns Helping Children Laugh In Refugee Camps

Ash tells us how in 2007 when he was playing guitar in a Cambodian orphanage he noticed that the children were happy, a feeling they didn’t usually experience. Later that night Ash wrote the idea for The Flying Seagull Project on a piece of paper and within three months launched. Since then, the Project has brought love, light and laughter to more than 205,000 children in hospitals, orphanages, deaf/blind schools, refugee camps and slums around the world.

In this podcast, Ash takes us through a range of challenges and experiences, from – how some children have forgotten to laugh; powerful stories of how lives have changed; child trafficking; and the impact of the global pandemic on his work.
