Taxback.com is a global tax specialist providing income tax refunds from 13 countries, tax return filing, global mobility tax solutions, international payroll and withholding tax recovery.
How are you different?
Getting tax back was difficult and strewn with obstacles until Taxback.com made it accessible for people all over the world. We were the first online tax agent in Ireland and we offer a range of services and not just tax refunds.

Why will the company / product do well?
Simplicity and usability are the core elements to everything we design and develop. In a world filled with an increasing amount of white noise for consumers, we’re always trying to provide proper solutions and interesting, useful content. We identify gaps in the market and build the product, service or software to help.

Where are you based? How long will you stay there?
All over the world! Our global footprint is 32 offices in 24 countries. In Ireland we have offices in Dublin and Kilkenny and our global footprint encompasses Australia, the Americas, Asia and Europe. We stay in an office as long as it serves our needs i.e. as long as there is enough space for people and the facilities (including reliable broadband) are there.
When was the company launched?
Our company was launched in 1996 when our founder Terry Clune found it difficult to get his tax back from a working holiday in Germany. He set up a company from his home that grew rapidly to the size it is today (1000 people worldwide).

What have been your biggest wins to date?
We have won several awards to date including Exporter of the Year, Deloitte Gold Standard, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, European Business Award and US Business & Finance Award. We were also the first tax agent in Ireland or the UK to become ISO 9001 quality certified.
We have worked with tax authorities all over the world to streamline services and raise tax awareness for consumers. In the last year, we have signed contracts with several multinationals to provide global mobility services for their employees. We’re also regularly asked to comment on topical tax stories in the media.
What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?
We have a range of products and services so we’re trying to attract different types of people. Our international income tax refund service is for anyone who has worked abroad. For our Irish self-assessed service, we’re targeting anyone in Ireland with a legal obligation to file a tax return. That could be self-employed people or landlords or anyone with an additional income stream like, for example, dividend or rental income. Our global mobility and international payroll services are for companies that have staff working abroad.

Tell us about your team?
Communications is all about producing interesting, creative and attractive content for people. It takes a lot of people to do this so fortunately I work with a great team of designers, developers, content writers and digital marketing specialists.
What are your long term plans for your product / company?
To create new products to make people’s lives easier and continue to enter new markets.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?
I’m not someone who likes having a load of gadgets but I’m heavily reliant on my iPhone and MacBook Air.
