Paul’s co-founder, Ann Shortt, working in her career as an A&E doctor, realised there was a major problem with our current health care system when she diagnosed a young woman one Christmas Eve with a serious illness. Had the patient been treated earlier the patient would have recovered fully.

Part of the problem is patients are unsure of what to do next after visiting their doctor. Sometimes further tests are needed. Sometimes lifestyle changes.

This is where First Health Medical comes in. Simplifying reports and making it very clear to patients what’s wrong and what they should do next.

Describe the company – the elevator pitch

Full Health’s digital platform converts complex medical data into easy to understand green, amber & red indicators, with clear action plans and recommendations for individuals, while enabling healthcare professionals to work much smarter. In simple terms, we provide simple tools that enable people to better manage their medical and health needs.

Our unique service is delivered through employer health assessment programmes or under licence through 3^rd party partnerships.

How are you different?

Unlike conventional medical reports, we turn difficult to understand results data into knowledge that empowers people toward better health. Prevention and innovation are our key ingredients.

Why will the company/product do well?

It’s already done so with over 40,000 medicals conducted in Ireland and UK today. Across the globe, every country is trying to control healthcare spending against a tide of increased chronic illness and longer life expectancy. Better tools are required for prevention, and Full Health is a leader in this field.

Where are you based?

We are based in Dublin, Castlebar, Co. Mayo, and have recently expanded to London.

When was the company launched?

We first came to the market in 2013.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Saving lives always feels good – we’ve had several instances where our medical reports & analysis have led to emergency intervention.

The biggest win for us every day is the positive feedback we get from customers who are delighted with our product and hearing that we have helped change someone’s health for the better.

Most people cannot believe that their medical results are clear and understandable, and set out the improvement steps and actions needed, instead of the usual medical gobbledegook.

Breaking into the UK market and being selected, for example, to run the employee wellness programme for Honda, including their high-performance Formula 1 Team, has been a great achievement for Full Health Medical. We are also running a national programme for a major body across Ireland through our network of GPs.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We have a broad client base which includes Employers, Private Hospitals, Occupational Health providers, GPs, Public bodies, Laboratories and Pharmacies.

For global expansion, we plan to roll-out our licence model.

Tell us about your team?

Our team is a combination of leading medical professionals and software developers, who are excited about digital health.

Dr Shortt is co-founder and Medical Director of the company and is uniquely qualified in two specialities as both an A&E consultant and GP. The medical team also includes Cardiologists, Rheumatologists, Gastroenterologists, and GPs.

What are your long-term plans for your product/company?

We will continue to build better tools for managing people’s long-term health, and that enable health professionals to deliver services in a smarter way.

Having just returned from an interview in Belfast for “the most innovative e-health solution to deliver patient care and safety” award, we are very excited about its role in the public health system.

The interview panel included key decision makers involved in Northern Ireland’s Healthcare.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

It’s hard to live without the iPhone and since its launch 10years ago, it’s incredible to see the impact it has had on daily lives. Which reminds me – we plan to develop an App for our product so that people can incorporate their medical & health goals into their day-to-day activities.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

We are currently working on IOT and connecting diagnostics devices for our software, so IOT and Health has a big future.

Blockchain also has exciting possibilities for healthcare and is also on our roadmap.

Like most successful innovations, we simplified, rather than reinvented an existing complex service.
