Edith Harbaugh Startup founder + CEO @LaunchDarkly | Cohost @ContinuousCast | Runner | engineer @harveymudd | cyclist | nerd
Your background?
I’m , CEO + Co-Founder of LaunchDarkly, co-host of “To Be Continuous,” a podcast on software development. I’ve been in technology for over a decade.
How you found Web / Surf Summit?
Last year I came to “Alpha” to present my startup, LaunchDarkly, and since raised $2.6M (USD) for our company. This year I was invited back to be on a panel on “Code” stage on continuous delivery, a software development best practice.
What useful encounters came out of it?
Last year, I saw Dave McLure (500 Startups Partner) last year, and he has since invested. This year I saw what companies outside of Silicon Valley are up to – how they’re developing software, their challenges. Also spoke to many developers who were excited about what we’re doing and now want to use our software.
What does your company do?
LaunchDarkly makes a platform for developers to control functionality to their own users. This allows developers to iterate faster, as they can get real world feedback.
How was last 12 months?
Last 12 months have been wonderful! We have huge companies using us – we serve over a billion events per month. We’ve tripled our team size.
Anything you’d do differently?
I’d have come a day sooner for the whole of Web Summit instead of arriving on Tuesday afternoon.
Tips for new startups?
Talk about your idea to everyone. Don’t be in stealth. Let people know what you’re doing and get their feedback. Your idea will improve the more people you talk to.
Future trends you’re excited about?
Continued evolution of software and continuous delivery, where developers are pushing out features tens or hundreds of times. This is good for the ultimate consumers who get better products.
What’s next for you?
Getting more developers to use LaunchDarkly to move faster and deliver better products!
How do you manage life / work /online / offline?
I’m very disciplined with my time. I’ve run three 100-mile races in the last year while starting a company. Running is my time to think long term strategy and unwind.
