Describe the company – the elevator pitch

Elderhomeshare matches vetted accommodation seekers to live with older homeowners creating a win win – security and company at home for seniors, affordable accommodation for professionals.

Why will the company / product do well?

Elderhomeshare is solving social issues for seniors in our community who live alone and feel isolated would like someone in the home for security, company and extra revenue. The service also addresses the rental crisis by looking to free up unused rooms and make them available to suitable renters.

Where are you based? 

5 Dame Lane, Fumbally Exchange, Dublin 2. I love being the Fumbally with a passion!

As someone who is used to working for myself and driving myself forward its been a breath of energizing fresh air to work in the Fumbally Exchange. I really enjoy the supportive flexible creative environment.  Alot of my latest hot leads have come from the people who I share the space with, ranging from a social entrepreneur trans gender voice therapist, architect and  actors agent – its lovely to be around  people with such diverse career paths  its great not to be doing it all my oneself its really opened my eyes too being in a shared work space and i am delighted to be part of it, we have regular social events too so you get to meet everyone in the building we really are a lucky bunch of Fumbliers.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

Talking on the Ryan Tubridy Morning show and getting a ‘meeting with the HSE who are interested in my innovative service.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

Primarily older homeowners who live alone

Tell us about your team?

It’s just me at the moment with lots of help from my friends. had the idea last year when given notice to move out, put my thinking cap on and worked on my business plan an entrepreneurial by nature and love a challenge.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

I’d like to see the service grow through the country and become a well known option for older homeowners who want to remain independently in their own home and an option for people like me who would be happy to live with an older home owner and avoid the expensive renal market.

I’d like to use technology to stream line the service and make delivery more effective.

How did you find Sprinters? In what way was it of help?

I found sprinter on meetup and couldn’t wait to do it, some people like to lie on beach and drink cocktails for there holiday, I like these kind of events it’s like a holiday for me. . and yes it was totally helpful I got a lot out of having to get up and present myself in front of other people it’s a great opportunity to put yourself out there build confidence and learn from people you admire. I love doing these intensive workshops I did one at the start of the summer and it really helped me to clarify my next step actions with my business idea and progress.  So coming back and doing another one a few months on helped me to see how much I had progressed.  I hope to do another one, next time I’d like to work on someone else’s idea as it would be great for my own learning.  I find the intensity of these events excellent for moving you forward and testing your limits. We were exceptionally well taken care of too!-

Did you go to any of the other Web summit events? Any useful encounters?

I was pushed for time but made it in for an hour the web summit is not something I would plan to go to but it was great to have the opportunity to go for free.  I felt like Cinderella going off to the ball I just walked around and took it all, lots of handsome princes too. If anyone reading this is inspired get in touch am always happy to discuss my project.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

At the moment I am enjoying using grammarly.com checks my spelling and grammar great!
