Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Drenched was created following a chance encounter; when our founder, Wes, stumbled across a TED TV talk by Alex Steffen concerning, ‘the route to a sustainable future‘, after watching the talk, Wes was left feeling totally helpless, both as a father and chartered engineer due to the realisation that he wasn’t doing anything to help the planet or sustain future generations.

Rather than stand back and leave it up to others, a strong urge to do something to help was ignited. Two weeks later, following encouragement from our co-founder Marc, allied with lots of fun experiments in the back garden with Wes’s children (and a lot of water being splashed around the house) the dream became a reality as the first successful prototype tests were validated. During those first few, formative weeks in Drenched life we learnt a great deal, the key to it all however was what we now refer to as ‘Basicology’.

Less than 24 months old, Drenched are a highly innovative, fast moving company, our mission is simple, yet the foundation of everything we do, namely, “to turn loose viable technologies through embracing the basics that positively impact our natural resources”.

How are you different?

In short, we’re not afraid to challenge the norm or what many deem impossible. Our values reflect the best aspects of our team, they define who we are and what sets us apart. They govern our actions and behaviour, both internally and externally and are critical to our mission of helping to improve people’s lives both now and for generations to come through the development of sustainable, innovative technology. We will not release any technology that doesn’t truly deliver on the sustainability aspect, there are far too many companies out there that sell supposedly green products just to create turnover, that’s not our style. People are unquestionably our most important asset and every person working collaboratively at Drenched adds to our values through many shared goals, visions and beliefs.

Our Philosophy can be summarised by the following:-

Why will the company / product do well?

Our products are ethical, scaleable and have a price point everyone can afford, the technology is proven and levers pure physics which means there’s no sales gimmick. The beauty though is its simplicity, people understand what we are doing and more importantly why.

We developed the Drenched Volumiser which when fitted into a tap enables people to wash their hands in just 50 ml of water (equivalent to two tablespoons) which represents an incredible water saving of 98%. Due to the physics of the Volumiser, an added benefit is that the water can be used cold yet it feels warmer which results in 100% energy saving on the heating.

With 7.3 Billion people currently on the planet and an estimated 10 Billion by 2050 all with a need to use water daily, we believe the scope of the Drenched product is truly global.

Where are you based?

We’re based on the old RAF Finningley site which is now Robin Hood airport. It’s a pretty cool area as we have the eclectic mix of old military buildings with their history fused with a modern operational airport. The Vulcan XH558 aircraft is also homed here which is always great to pop round to see.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

We were genuinely humbled and delighted to firstly enter & then win the regional final of HRH the Duke of York’s entrepreneurship competition, “[email protected]’ held in Sheffield. There were some amazing entrants & it was widely acknowledged that the competition was comprised of the strongest field of entrants in the competition to date. Following our win in Sheffield, we were subsequently invited to pitch against all of the respective regional winners comprising of 42 Entrepreneurs at Harwell Campus in Oxford where we were again winners and selected with 11 other Entrepreneurs to Pitch at the final at St. James’s Palace on 2nd November, 2016.
[email protected] has helped start-up businesses create 447 jobs and 66% of them have raised funds. One of the most notable stories is technology business Magic Pony, which met its investors at a [email protected] event. It sold to Twitter in June this year for a reported $150 million.

What type of people (market segment) are you trying to attract to your product?

We believe our Volumiser product will appeal to everyone whether commercial, residential, public, private or government sector. There are no boundaries to water and energy needs & so wherever people need water we believe the Volumiser will be of benefit to them.

Tell us about your team?

We recognise that without the right people skills in place a company doesn’t last very long. The Drenched team are wholly dependable, trustworthy, and decisive; never afraid to stand firm for what they believe in is right, they’re continually open to looking at things differently, challenge convention and have the courage to change course when needed. The team all compliment one another’s skill-sets and have backgrounds in Engineering, Finance, Law, Sales, IT, Marketing, Design & Product Development.

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We have a number of incredibly exciting, game-changing, technologies that we will be releasing in the not too distant future & we’re incredibly excited about the future & the journey Drenched has embarked upon. The ultimate long term plan is to make a dint in the amount of water that is wasted every single day globally, which will in turn reduce the carbon emissions created in the generating of fresh water.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Anything that really stands out & makes a real difference or solves an environmental problem is an attention grabber for Drenched. The general consumer tech that you would see in our office or at home at the moment is: Macbook pro, pretty much anything else that’s apple, pzizz sleep app which is really useful at the moment and a Dolce gusto coffee machine which is the most important thing in the office.

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

It’s an incredibly busy time at the moment with so much going on here at Drenched & so a time machine would be great or perhaps a button that’s able to pause life to allow us to get more time in the day to do all the things we want & need to.
