Describe the company – the elevator pitch …

Bonkers.ie will help you find the best deals and save money on energy, broadband, TV and banking services, and will help you switch without any hassle! We’re impartial and we keep all our rates and prices up to date so you can be confident when you use bonkers.ie.

How long has your company been going?

We’ve been around since 2010, it’s been a wild ride so far! We’ll be celebrating our 5th birthday soon, watch this space…

How are you different?

We’re completely impartial, and we’re regulated. So, our facts and figures about gas, electricity, broadband, TV and bank accounts are always up-to-date and reliable. Also, we only vouch for whatever company has the best deal for the customer in question – no sales pitches, no hidden fees, no funny stuff, just clear advice on how customers can save money.

Why will the company / product do well?

Because lots of people are overpaying for their energy, broadband and banking services! Take mortgages for example, 21% of all borrowers could save money by switching, yet only 38 people a month are doing so. It’s our job spread the word about how simple it is to make some serious savings with bonkers.ie.

Where are you based?  How long will you stay there?

10-12 Hogan Place is bonkers.ie’s HQ. We only moved in last November and are settling in nicely so have no plans to move in the near future. Oh, and the broadband is awesome! We get a speed of over 95 Mbps, according to our very own broadband speed test.

When was the company launched?

Our MD David Kerr founded and launched bonkers.ie in 2010 after spotting a need among Irish consumers for a reliable, impartial switching service.

What have been your biggest wins to date?

That’s a tough question! Every time we help a customer make a switch feels like a win. We did also win the Grand Prix for ‘Best Website in Ireland’ at the Irish Web Awards in 2013, which was another nice moment!

What type of people are you trying to attract to your product?

Anyone that gets a monthly energy, broadband, TV or banking bill or statement is a potential bonkers.ie user. So everyone from students moving out of the family home for the first time and trying to pick the best bank account to open, to adults in the tenth year of their mortgage are relevant. After all, everyone likes saving money!

Tell us about your team?

We recently hired our tenth full-time employee. We have a customer service team of three, another three in marketing and communications and four in our design and development team. But there’s a huge overlap and lots of collaboration between everyone in the office. It’s a fantastic place to work!

What are you long term plans for your product / company?

We have some big plans in the works, mainly relating to team growth and launching new product categories, which is really exciting. We’re constantly striving to make our users’ experience on our site and phones even more enjoyable, so that’s always part of our future plans too.

What are your favourite tech gadgets?

Not strictly a gadget, but we’re big Slack fans at bonkers.ie HQ. All team members are constantly logged in on laptops and smartphones. It’s great for quick communication, brainstorming and banter of course!

What tech gadgets do you wish you could use to help you?

A 3D printer would be nice!

Anything else you’d like to say?

We’re happy to have won a few awards over during 5 years in existence too, so other people must value what we do too:

WINNER Grand Prix: Best Website in Ireland – 2013 Irish Web Awards

WINNER Best Financial Services Website – 2013 Irish Web Awards, 2013 Digital Media Awards, 2012 Irish Web Awards, 2011 Eircom Spiders

WINNER Best Practice in Technology – 2013 Irish Web Awards

bonkers.ie is accredited by the Commission for Energy Regulation as an impartial, accurate and independent supplier of energy price comparisons.
