New Book Hailed as the Instruction Manual Needed for the White House

Book by Donegal author to be launched at conference for public sector marketers

An Irish author has published a book set to transform how global governments and public sector agencies communicate.

Joanne Sweeney’s Public Sector Marketing Pro is a masterclass in digital age government and citizen engagement.

It has been applauded by the former digital advisor to President Barack Obama. Tom Cochran has described the book as “the instructional manual I needed when working at the White House in 2011.”

Cochran worked with President Obama from 2011-2012 as chief digital advisor and then in the US State Department from 2012-2016.

He says Sweeney’s book could have saved him years of digital mistakes.

Digital fluency is imperative in the public sector, where the mission is delivering citizen services to the public. Joanne’s book is the instruction manual I sorely needed when I started at the White House in January 2011. All the lessons I learned, took years, and countless failures for me to learn them.”

The book is tipped as a number one Amazon bestseller in the government marketing category.

It’s being launched next week (12 June) at the Public Sector Digital Marketing Summit at The Helix where 150 government communications and marketing professionals will gather. Sweeney is the organiser of the event which is now in its second year.

Speakers from the PSNI, European Council of Europe, HSE, Office of the Ombudsman for Children, Visit Derry, University of Limerick, Office of Public Works, safefood, Donegal Education and Training Board and the University of York in the UK among others will share case studies on how they are leveraging social media for greater public engagement and crisis management.

Facebook and Instagram will also share insights into how these channels are promoting and protecting government communications and industry experts on LinkedIn, video marketing, professional reputation online and metrics will also provide insights.

Sweeney says the time for transformation of government communications has long passed. It’s now been disrupted by the engaged citizen whose hand of power has never been so dominant.

“The power brokers at central and local government and in public sector organisations are citizens. Public engagement levels are at an all-time high and they demand a constant flow of communications through multiple channels and devices.

“The days of public bodies, public figures and institutions of the state sitting on the story are over. The former broadcast journalist and two-time author will go on a book tour this autumn which will take her to Australia where she will train senior government officials in the contents of the book.”

Public Sector Marketing Pro is available to buy on Amazon or at www.publicsectormarketingpro.com/book.
