The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has announced the award of €1.414m to 25 education and animation projects, through its Sound & Vision funding scheme.

This twenty-second round of the scheme was focused exclusively on education and animation projects, two formats that the Authority felt were under-represented in terms of awards in each year. A total of 90 applications were received. The package of recommendations includes four animation projects and twenty-one education projects across commercial, community and public service television and radio broadcasters.

Speaking about the funding announcements, the Chief Executive Michael O’Keeffe said “the decision to have a targeted round, as requested by our stakeholders, has met with mixed results in terms of the number of applications received and funded, particularly for animation. However, this targeted round has worked more successfully for education projects and has seen an increase in funding to education projects overall across all three funding rounds in 2014.”

The BAI will now commence contract negotiations with all successful applicants. A full list of the projects being offered funding is available here.
