Avanti Communications signs a master distributor contract with Afrique Telecom

Avanti Communications Group plc (Avanti) has signed a master distributor agreement with Afrique Telecom, a pan-African service provider, to provide high-speed satellite broadband services across Sub-Saharan Africa. The partnership will significantly improve the penetration of reliable satellite broadband in regions that do not currently have access to terrestrial internet connections.

Through Avanti’s latest satellite, HYLAS4, Afrique Telecom will provide affordable high-speed satellite broadband to connect homes, small businesses and enterprises in Africa, especially in rural and remote locations where terrestrial networks are limited or unreliable.

On 5 November 2018, Afrique Telecom tested his first live site in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Using the HYLAS 4 satellite and Newtec modems, the site can reach super-fast broadband speeds of 100Mbps; some of the highest satellite speeds available on the market.

The Master Distributor partnership will allow Afrique Telecom to deploy similar high-quality services throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.

Avanti Group CEO, Kyle Whitehill, said “HYLAS 4, the latest addition to our satellite fleet, was launched to complete our coverage of Sub-Saharan Africa. Partnering with Afrique Telecom supports our mission to deliver broadband access to help liberate the potential of communities and businesses wherever they are located.”

Afrique Telecom CEO, Philippe Tintignac, added “We are committed to connecting businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa with high-speed broadband. Avanti’s HYLAS 4 enables us to provide customers with high speed and quality broadband flexible Ka-band satellite technology for Consumer rural broadband and Enterprise services. Our first live site with HYLAS 4 has been a real success and we’re excited to help the digital transformation in Africa.”
