When and where is Atelier Teymur Rzayev’s Climate Change Art Show?
Atelier Teymur Rzayev will hold a Climate Change Art Show from May 30 to June 12 at the Balat Art and Culture Center in Istanbul, Turkey taking place during the week of World Environment Day on June 5, 2020.
Cem Ustuner the owner of Pinelo Art Gallery[1] and The Irish Tech News will avail a digital version of our Climate Change Art Show to commemorate the World Environment Day which is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging appreciation, supporting action, and driving changes for the environment which has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually.[2] (see attached Brochure for Atelier Teymur Rzayev Climate Change Art Show).
How many years has it been going?
This is the first time our Atelier Teymur Rzayev is having a group Art Show, which I was able to not only curate but also distribute digitally thanks to Pinelo Art Gallery[3] and The Irish Tech News. The theme for our first Art Show is Climate Change, as many of the artists at our Atelier are environmentalists who express this sentiment through their paintings in addition to their writings.
What was the inspiration to your Climate Change Themed Art Show?
The inspiration behind the theme of our art show was a culmination of the body of work of like-minded Climate Change Artists at our Atelier — Serife Akkan, Askin Akman, Rana Balkis, Oya Gali, Semine Hazar, Selva Ozelli, Hulya Sahin, Ilhan Sayin
Ismail Soysal, and my Climate Change based article series.
Since last year I had been writing a series of articles on digital technology adoption, solar energy and tax policies in the jurisdictions with the greatest carbon emissions which has been published by The Irish Tech News[4], as well as the World’s first Climate Change Museum “The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change – Hong Kong.”
The paintings by artists in our Atelier’s Climate Change Themed Art Show corresponded to the issues I raised/addressed in my Climate Change based article series which matched the World Environment Day theme for 2019 which was “Beat Air pollution.”
The first article that kick started my Climate Change article series was titled“Crypto and Song For the Saints”[5] which got its name based on music artist Kenny Chesney’s “Song for the Saints” album as my article addressed carbon pollution’s impact on extreme weather events such as hurricanes.
“The colors, the violent expression of nature in Hurricane Irma triggered by Climate Change was an expression of the musical of my soul on a canvas”[6]explained artist Oya Gali for the inspiration for her painting titled “Hurricane Irma” which is part of our Atelier’s Climate Change Art Show.
The issue of deforestation is a significant environmental problem as overpopulation pushes people to find new residential areas and energy resources by clearing out forested areas which is addressed in Fatma Kadir’s painting “Tree Abuse”; Hulya Sahin’s paintings titled “One leaf- a Thousand Rain Drops” and “Sad Trees” and Askin Akman’s painting “Tree 284” that is part of his current Forest themed solo art show at Galeri Miz in Istanbul[7] that he described as “In my forest series, I took a forest, and expressed the bark of the trees, the vast sky, the encroaching desert via Climate Change via the human touch.”[8]
An offshoot to deforestation is the environmental problem of desertification which Ilhan Sayin depicted in his paintings titled “Glamorous Cactus” and “Red Cactus” as well as Serife Akkan in her painting “Running To The Oasis.” I think deforestation, desertification contribute to increased carbon pollution and are the greatest environmental challenges of our time with Climate Change making matters worse.
I mentioned these points in my interview for Tired Earth titled “Mutual Connection Between Taxes and Environmental Problems” which was the second article in my Climate Change series.[9]
I made the painting titled Tsunami based the analysis of the 9.1 Tohoku tsunami on Japan’s energy policy in my fifth article titled “Japan to Solarize Its Burgeoning Digital Economy”[10]
Fatma Kadir’s painting titled “Homeless Doves” and Ismail Soysal’s painting titled “Farmer’s Longing” where he “Wanted to capture that feeling of despair that comes from missing the forest which was home to all the colorful animals” depicted the diminishment of biodiversity as a result of Climate Change which I addressed in my sixth article titled “Green Policy and Crypto Energy Consumption in the EU.”[11]
Semine Hazar’s paintings titled “Artic Melting 1 & 2” which she painted “In 2017 [when] I traveled to the Antarctic and first hand witnessed the melting of the ice with a great sound crash in to the sea [that] brought tears to my eyes.”[12] This painting depicted the impact of carbon pollution’s destructive impact on Artic Melting addressed in my eight article titled “Russia Leads Multinational Stablecoin Initiative.”[13]
Rana Balkis’s painting titled “Climate Change” which gave the name to our Atelier’s first digital Art Show was published by World’s first Climate Change Museum The Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change – Hong Kong in the beginning of this year.[14] In her painting titled “Not Like Before” which Rana began painting before the COVID-19 pandemic broke, she captured that blue feeling of a “World [which] was signaling that it is being negatively impacted by Climate Change and that we humans needed to acknowledge this and adjust our way of life.” [15]
This painting depicted the theme I explored in my final article in my Climate Change article series titled “The Need to Report Carbon Emissions Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic” that delved into whether carbon emissions might be one reason for such a terrible global COVID-19 pandemic scenario.[16]
What exciting things can people look forward to in your Climate Change Art Show?
Our Ateliers first digital Climate Change Art Show corresponds to a time of an unprecedented worldwide lock-down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I think the human caused environmental damage, the pollution, all contributed to the rapid spread of Coronavirus which in essence is nature’s cry for help. I hope this is a wakeup call for us to make the needed adjustments to learn to live in harmony with nature going forward” said Teymur Rzayev.[17]
During these quarantine blue times, the Climate Change artists at our Atelier kept in touch digitally as “I wanted my paintings to [continue to] bring attention to, to set alarm bells about the destruction humans are making to their environment” explained Serife Akkan.[18] “As history has shown, the desire to paint intensifies in times of distress, as one becomes more creative to express their thoughts and feelings.
In my humble opinion art should give people hope, a new point of view, a creative approach during these globally distressful times” explained Askin Akman[19], because “An artist by using their esthetic talent, intellect and emotions interprets and expresses their surroundings using their unique artistic language” added Ilhan Sahin with Hulya Sahin concurring “Nature’s excellent colors, shapes inspire me to no end”[20] even during these digitally connected quarantine blue times.
We digitally notified one another about international art competitions and entered them digitally, all with considerable success. Teymur Rzayev explained “With quarantines in place, I am conducting my [University and] Atelier classes digitally. I made a painting which I submitted to the United Nations Global Call out to Creatives – help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Out of 16,000 artists from around the world who responded to this initiative, all artists who participated in this competition including Rana [Balkis (2)], Selva [Ozelli (14)] and myself (1) from my Atelier were selected by the UN.[21] All of our submitted paintings got selected by the United Nations and I am very proud of this.”[22] (See also attached Coronavirus Brochure for all three artists).
Artist Selva Ozelli’s painting titled “Coronavirus Hits” was shortlisted in international ART IN THE TIME OF CORONA competition held by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.[23]
Artist Fatma Kadir’s painting titled “Four Seasons” recently won first prize at the nature art competition at Connemara National Park – Páirc Náisiúnta Chonamara in Ireland.[24]
Those who view our Atelier’s first Climate Change Art Show digitally will be able to view international award winning Climate Change artist’s work exploring themes such as “Coronavirus, Climate Change, [which] are matters that need to be addressed” explained Rana Balkis.” [25]
Do you think digital art shows will be part of the future going forward?
With Society witnessing the urgent implementation of digital currencies, AI and blockchain technology worldwide stemming from COVID-19 social distancing rules, I think digital art shows, will be part of the future going forward where an artist’s work will have a digital global reach. Many Museums, Art Galleries, Culture Centers are repositioning their focus to provide digital art shows at this time.
